Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder of Her Niece.
The Abia State Police Command has announced that a 35-year-old woman, Nwoko Gift from Imo State, will be charged with attempted murder.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the suspect was arrested after she was caught on video assaulting her 12-year-old niece, Miss Ebo Chimamanda, with a kitchen knife at their residence in IBB Housing Estate, Umuahia.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on July 5, Nwoko attacked the girl because she refused to spread clothes as instructed before the suspect left for the market. It was also discovered that the suspect had repeatedly beaten the child and threatened to kill her in the past.
Operatives from the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly, rescued the victim, arrested Nwoko Gift, and recovered the knife used in the incident. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, after which the suspect will be formally charged with attempted murder.
