Cape Verde’s national team, the Blue Sharks, received a heroes welcome upon their return home. Hundreds of enthusiastic fans gathered at Nelson Mandela International Airport in Praia to celebrate the country’s historic first-ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup.
The squad was later celebrated with a grand street parade in the capital as the nation commemorated its Independence Day.
Cape Verde gained independence from Portugal in 1975.
By reaching the knockout stage and giving strong favorites Argentina a real scare, the Blue Sharks have filled the entire nation with pride
